Faux Limestone Facade, Commercial Retail Interior

Clothier Paul Smith asked A. Thayer Smith III, Inc. to recreate the Georgian façade of one of their British stores for use as a partition in a new Manhattan outlet, in faux stone.  As well as faithfully reproducing the forms of the original work, the intent was to recreate the worn and stained appearance of limestone which had been exposed to the elements for two centuries.  We worked from photos and scaled drawings.  The materials used were engineered gypsum and plaster.

This project also had a historic wood reproduction component.  For this same store, we were asked to reproduce historic wood panelling that had been installed in the fitting room of their Hollywood, CA store.  We flew to California to photograph and measure this work and made molds for it.  We cast the work in composite, stained and colored to look just like the original woodwork.
