Restoration of Ornamental Plaster Ceiling in Historic Theater

Abandoned for 50 years, the interior of the Queen Theater in Wilmington was water stained and heavily damaged.  In October of 2009, a $24 million restoration of this important but forgotten downtown building was launched.  A Thayer Smith III Inc. was chosen to restore the ornamental plaster.  Shown below is the 30 foot diameter dome.  The plaster is structurally compromised and must be replaced.  All profiles and details were carefully documented.  The image above shows this process beginning, note the plaster molds fixed in place in the ceiling.  As the project proceeds, we will add images of the work.
