ON SITE EXPERTISE KEEPS CUSTOM AND ORNAMENTAL PLASTER RESTORATION PROJECTS ON TRACK

Plaster restoration.By combining traditional techniques with new technologies, we develop the most cost effective methods possible for each plaster restoration project. We have restored historic existing work with period techniques, when that was most economical or when a "museum quality" repair was required. We can install "stock" ornamental plaster elements from any number of domestic or imported designs or we can produce our own custom molds for reproducing existing work or for new designs. Where the condition of the supporting structure is a factor, as it often is in ornamental plaster restoration work, we consider the economic benefits of substituting a lightweight, reinforced replacement (GRG, or glass reinforced gypsum). If a room is under time constraints, a theater, for instance, we can design the project to install quickly, in large prefabricated pieces, for minimal down time. In short, our focus is on client goals.

"THAYER, CAN YOU FIX THIS?"

At right can be seen the medallion of the dome of the Queen Theater, thirty feet in diameter, neglected, water stained and structurally damaged.  We documented all elements, taking molds of all work, and duplicated all existing work exactly. Working with architects, contractors and owners, A. Thayer Smith III has executed decorative and molded plaster projects throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and the New York City area. We have recently opened an office and shop in Atlanta, Georgia, in order to better serve the South. Ornamental plaster is an exceptionally beautiful and versatile material. It has been our privilege to participate in a diverse range of prestigious projects including church and theater restorations, hotels and restaurants, government buildings and private homes. We look forward with interest to hear about your significant custom or ornamental plaster restoration project.
