"G. R. G." MEANS NEW BUILDING OPTIONSActually, GRG stands for " Glass Reinforced Gypsum. It is a simple idea: to introduce strands or mats of glass fiber into otherwise brittle plaster elements to give them structural strength. What this can mean to your project is that the plasterer is now free to prefabricate elements in large, structurally stable sections for quick installation and simple attachment. In years past, historic plasterers reinforced plaster with chopped horsehair, hemp fiber and other improvised aggregate. Until the advent of GRG, plaster was generally dependent on continuous support from blocking or lathe, thus limiting the means and methods of installation. Glass fiber has changed that and now A. Thayer Smith, Inc. can prefabricate work for minimal additional structural support. Some shapes, small interior domes, for instance, or coffered ceilings, can be built free standing or suspended. Working with architects, contractors and owners, A. Thayer Smith III, Inc. has executed ornamental plaster projects throughout Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and the New York City area. We always take an innovative, cost-efficient approach to this beautiful and versatile material. It has been our privilege to participate in a diverse range of prestigious residential, commercial and public projects .
