Moldmaker A. Thayer Smith III, Inc. furnishes a comprehensive and innovative approach to custom ornamental plaster, for both plaster restoration projects and for new work.

By combining traditional techniques with new technologies, we develop the most cost effective methods possible for each plaster restoration project. We have restored historic existing work with period techniques, when that was most economical or when a "museum quality" repair was required. We can install "stock" ornamental plaster elements from any number of domestic or imported designs or we can produce our own custom molds for reproducing existing work or for new designs. Where the condition of the supporting structure is a factor, as it often is in ornamental plaster restoration work, we consider the economic benefits of substituting a lightweight, reinforced replacement (GRG, or glass reinforced gypsum). If a room is under time constraints, a theater, for instance, we can design the project to install quickly, in large prefabricated pieces, for minimal down time.
